Who gets the credit? Bobby or Pellers?

Postby Benjay » Wed Jan 22, 2014 7:28 am

Reading the BBC today, Bobby makes the point that the players scoring the goals this season are players he bought and that was os happening now happened 3 years ago.
Whilst I cannot argue that he did buy these players he does not mention Negrado who has been a major factor this season.
To me this season is the best football we have played and for the sake of football we should win the league. MP deserves the credit for that.
Bobby is rightly quite bitter it seems. I find his comments quite one dimensional. The players look far happier and far more together this season than they ever have done. That is reflected in the way Nasri and Dzeko have played.
We have a lot to thank Bobby for me but MP is on the cusp of taking us to a level that I dont think Bobby would have achieved had he stayed.

Mancini deserves much of the credit for the site he put together, but football wise, Pellegrini is getting more out of them. Whether that turns into trophies remains to be seen.

But I don't recall Mancini rushing to give Hughes credit, yet de jong, Lescott, Barry, Kompany & Zabaleta were key figures in our winning things.

Mancini took a team who may have made the top 4 and were in a semi final and won a cup and league over the next two seasons. I think he improved us from what Hughes could have done. Hopefully Pellegrini is doing the same

And Tevez.

Mancini was considerably better than Hughes & the Count is considerably better than Mancini.

All of them have contributed to getting us where we are.

Bob should just move on and keep his mouth shut.
What about the players who did not want to play for him last season.

Obviously I haven't read the interview and I don't know the context but it is what I would answer if some journo asked something like "City are magnificent at the moment, how do you feel about it?".
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

In the same way that our defence, which was so strong under him, was already at the club before he took over. With the exception of Jerome Boateng and Stefan Savic.

I had a little chuckle at that. I would not expect a manager to come out and belittle his own achievements but to claim we are the same as three years ago is a tad deluded.

Apart from coasting in the Champions Leauge and scoring for fun the main difference is we do not have two negative influences in the changing room like Tevez and Balotelli in the dressing room anymore. problems Mancini either created or chucked gas on the fire. I don't think it is a coincidence that guys like Dzeko and Nasri all of a sudden look like solid team players now that those two are gone.

Look at Dzeko's set up for Kuns goal against Blackburn. He could easily have scored himself. He was in a a better posistion to score from there than the two goals he scored but laid one on a plate for a team mate who had been out injured. Had Tevez or Balotelli been out that long last season there is no chance he would have passed to them. That spoke volumes for the difference in the dressing room from this season to that of the Mancini era.

Tevez would have caused problems regardless of the manager. Balotelli was a problem Mancini brought on himself.

Responding to the original qurstion of who gets the credit: the credit for what?

If its the attacking, exciting, scoring goals for fun football we are seeing, then its a no brainer. Pellegrini. The man in the dugout shapes the team and dictates how the team play and his philosophy runs through the team. As such he takes the glory or the buck. Right now Pellers is basking in the sun.

If we are talking trophies, then Mancini at the moment has the edge because he has won them. However, I have no doubt that Pellers will win lots of them given time. Definately/maybe one this year.

Give credit to Mancini though as he had improved us from the previous regime, just as Hughes improved us. Its about progression and we have progressed over our last three managers imo. Something that cannot be said for a lot of our rivals. Look at the dippers. Regressed sine Benitez. Chelsea have reappointed a manager they sacked 3/4 managers ago. The swamp is a joke at the moment. Also Pellers wont be with us for a long time (10 years) imo and he will hand over the reins with the club in a better position than when he started.

When you consider that this is Pellegrini's first season, I get the feeling that the day in the future when he leaves City, may bring a sigh of relief around the Premier League, maybe even around Europe.

It's easy to forget that he's only just getting started.

Is he attempting to devalue what Pellegrini has achieved by claiming he built the side? Is that the purpose of those comments??

Moyes inherited the league champions which is essentially the same side as last years bar Felliani and he's made a right royal bollocks out of defending their title. While the core of our squad also played under Mancini, Pellegrinis engineering has surpassed the football a Mancini City side played, with the players visually a lot happier. No more training ground rifts, no more refusing to play.

While Mancini certainly played his part, this is Pellegrinis side now, we've progressed and improved and that's Manuel's doing

Bollocks , bringing in Navas and Negredo and actually man managing the players is the reason we are banging them in for fun and winning.................with a smile.

I'm not sure who bought Tevez, so I decided to leave him out. Credit should also go to Pearce for buying Hart.

We're currently on an upward slope so hopefully any new manager will build on what the previous one achieved.

so if he wants the acclaim then he should shoulder all the blame for messing up in Europe twice and completely screwing up the league and cup last season. You cant have it both ways,

I don't think one of those was "messing up". Good points total in a very tough group.
