City u21s v The Filth U21s

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Interesting to see them doing a similar mis-direction set piece around the opponent's box as the senior team does. Everyone makes a run forward, but we cut it back to someone peeling off... holistic

We let them have a few chances at the end of the half, but we have much more individual quality and are playing better as a team. Sloppy at times, but 2 more goals in the 2nd half would make a nice win.

Awful goal to concede. In keeping with the jest team in that sense.

Just get the feeling City are going at half speed

The must have been watching Richards on Saturday!

It is a good game though, and he took his goal well. This Holistic approach is also producing Holistic frustration with the boys messing up potentially dangerous situations

Good atmosphere in the away end. Good banter mostly.

The best thing about the vermin and denying their supporters free thought is they don't know what to do when they don't get it their own way.

As for the players thy were good, rose to the occasion a few tear your hair out moments, but it felt like City were playing at 70% and the Rags were at 90%

If I pick someone out it's the GK Iain lawlor, made a couple of good saves, showed some good anticipation coming out and is a big big man

It was weird watching it on rag-tv and listening to the bollox biased pundits but I couldn't turn the sound off because I was listening to our fans doing all the chanting at the son of swamp.
Our U21's = a skillful passing game, great movement, exciting attacking intent. Their U21's = kick and rush like stoke . . I was going to say like Everton but moyes has left and Di Mateo has them playing real footie now.
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

Great win and gutted I couldn't go.I have seen the goals now on U Tube but would love to know how individuals performed and especially Denayer. Chuffed to that Greg Leigh scored.Local lad from Sale and his dad is one I often speak to .He will be doubly well pleased.Nice run from Cole to set up the 2nd goal. He has real pace moving with the ball and a constant threat like that when he takes players on.

Denayer had a strange game. He's built like a tank but he'd get a loose pass or be slightly out of position and let a united forward through and then his pace would allow him to quickly recover.

What else was weird was he didn't have to win a single header in the air.

In addition I thought Shay Facey played really well second half.

Denayer looked more like a midfielder at times in the second half, he did a Vinnie/Demichelis a few times and went marauding forward (I think he caught his team mates out once when he was the most advanced player and he had no one to pass it to).

MEN article about the match, including quotes from Paddy V himself:

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... 1s-6635807

Patrick Vieira praised his young City players for handling the ‘pressure’ of a Manchester derby to beat United in the Under-21s Premier League at the AJ Bell Stadium.

City went ahead inside 10 minutes through Greg Leigh’s header but were pegged back shortly after half-time when Jesse Lingard beat Ian Lawlor.

That left George Glendon to score the winner for City and delight Elite Development Squad coach Vieira.“We are delighted, especially to win against United,” he said.

“It was a really difficult game. The pressure was high and the boys wanted to do well so much.

“Sometimes you can get nervous. But they played really well as a team.

“We tried to play from the back. We didn’t play our best football tonight. “We conceded a goal in the second half but we came back and scored the second one.

“We are delighted with the win because in the end I think we deserved it.”

Both United and City had players on the fringes of their first-teams in their squads.

United coaching duo Warren Joyce and Nicky Butt picked Lingard, who was on the bench against Swansea after impressing on loan at Birmingham, and Will Keane, who has returned from his loan spell at Wigan.

Vieira was without Marcos Lopes after he started for the first-team against Watford on Saturday, but was able to call on Emyr Huws, who was in the squad for the FA Cup tie with Blackburn.

City started far better and went ahead after eight minutes when Leigh headed past Sam Johnstone.

Lingard equalised soon after the break when David Petrucci rolled him in and he coolly beat Lawlor.

But United struggled to create many clear chances after pulling level and when Devante Cole, watched by dad Andy, raced past Donald Love on the left flank, he cut the ball back for Glendon to score the winner from close range.

Vieira added: “It was strange because I felt like we conceded a goal when we were playing better.

“I was really pleased with the players because they kept their shape, kept their discipline and we kept playing from our goalkeeper. We showed a strong personality. What was important was for us to keep our concentration.

“It was really important to play our football and I was really pleased because the focus and the determination to win the game was there. This kind of game, with the pressure will help the boys develop. And seeing City beating United is always good!”

There is no 'sure thing' in football, but if I had to pick a player who I thought was nearest to it, then he would be the one I'd pick.

He just looks absolutely nailed on to be a proper footballer imo possibly a very top one. The thing I'm not sure about is if that will be at centre back or not.

Like many of our young cbs, I picture him v a Negredo or a Peter Crouch in 3 years time & ask the quesation of would I expect him to cope ? Can't say I'm convinced any of them could do it (mind you, Nastasic can't get near players like that & he still gets games). But it's not certain. I can't see Rekik ever doing it successfully though, for example, but he's no Denayer.

Denayer to me, can easily step forward & do Garcia's job in the future if he can't be a Prem cb. Rekik possibly could that too, but Denayer is better than him at everything.

I also wonder if Denayer is just too good a footballer to be stuck at the back anyway, even if he can do it.

I love job Pat is doing with the U21's, i dont keep up with their results as much as I should however there seems to be a noticeable difference in the football being played and the results this season. I wonder what effect the EDS Champions League is having on them as they did a great job getting out of the groups, seems like the step up in standard has improved them.

If he stays in defence I will be calling him "Denier" (and not in the thickness-of-tights sense either)
(And apologies to Chinners for repeating the MEN article which is in his Bollox - I DID read the Bollox but only after I'd posted it)
