In my beer fuelled thoughts of last night I could have sworn she was a looker and closer inspection indicates there are some harsh critics on here!

Back on topic wasn't Kewell named as the greatest ever Australian footballer?

yes, i think my wife is better looking. i prefer blondes though - gentlemen do...

rough was a bit strong for mrs kewell (nee murphy). she isn't rough, she just isn't exactly the 'bird' i'd have expected kewell to have ended up with.... she's about 5 yrs older and unusually (imo) he's better looking than her... how many footballers can you say that about????

I'd actually agree that he's better looking than her. I can only imagine that they just get on really well.

Ashley Young's missus...now she's rough.

Renamed Melbourne City and David Villa signs

http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Club-news/20 ... nouncement?

The owners of Melbourne Heart FC have today announced the renaming of the Club to Melbourne City FC.

The change was announced in a letter to the Club’s members from Ferran Soriano, CEO of CFG, that also unveiled a new club badge inspired by the heritage of Melbourne and approved kit designs for the upcoming season.

Ferran Soriano, CEO of CFG, stated that: “Following a lengthy consultation with the Club’s members, partners, the FFA and a range of other stakeholders, we believe the changes announced today will strengthen the Club’s ties with the community to which it belongs while expanding its ability to grow commercially and harness the many benefits of belonging to the City family.”

The Melbourne City FC badge draws its inspiration from the heritage of Melbourne while celebrating modern day aspects of the Victorian economy, society and environment. The central red and white component of the badge ensures that the Club’s foundation colours will always be an integral part of its identity.

Scott Munn, CEO of Melbourne City FC, said: “The Club has worked hard to create an identity for Melbourne City FC that reflects the traditions of its existing fan base and embraces the many sporting, operational and commercial benefits that are provided by our association with Manchester City FC and New York City FC.”

The new Home Kit for Melbourne City FC combines the white from the Club’s previous kit designs with the signature blue of its sister clubs in Manchester and New York. The new Away Kit for Melbourne City FC celebrates the Club’s history, the wishes of its existing fan base and the red and white that remains at the heart of its identity.

The Home and Away kits for Melbourne City FC have been designed by Nike, which has been announced as the Club’s official on-field kit supplier.

Melbourne City FC is also pleased to announce existing partner HOSTPLUS as its new back-of-shirt sponsor.

Melbourne City FC memberships for the 2014-15 Season are now available at https://membership.melbournecityfc.com.au.

David Villa will join Manchester City-owned A-League club Melbourne City on a 10-game loan after the FIFA World Cup.
Villa, who is in camp with Spain ahead of the World Cup, will complete a loan stint in Melbourne before officially linking up with another City-owned club, New York City, in MLS in 2015.
The 32-year-old striker became the first player to sign with New York City on Monday, after announcing he was leaving Atletico Madrid the day earlier, and will head to Melbourne on a 10-game contract to keep fit in the second half of this year.
The Villa announcement coincided with confirmation of Melbourne Heart's name change to Melbourne City.
With City having purchased Melbourne Heart in January, Thursday's announcement underlined how different the Australian club's future could be with Abu Dhabi ownership.
CEO of the City Football Group (CFG), Ferran Soriano, said: "Following a lengthy consultation with the club’s members, partners, the FFA and a range of other stakeholders, we believe the changes announced today will strengthen the club's ties with the community to which it belongs while expanding its ability to grow commercially and harness the many benefits of belonging to the City family."

Villa scored 13 goals for Atletico as the Madrid-based club won their first La Liga title in 18 years last season, while he also started in the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Real.
The former Valencia and Barcelona forward is Spain's all-time leading goal-scorer with 56 strikes in 94 appearances and will be a key man for Vicente del Bosque, as the Europeans attempt to defend their world title in Brazil.
Villa will arguably become the best player to play in the A-League as he will arrive at Heart still at the top of his game, compared to former Sydney FC marquee signings Alessandro Del Piero and Dwight Yorke, who arrived at the ages of 37 and 33 respectively.
The club have released a new logo and kit changes are expected to follow.

Fantastic signing for MCFC (aus) I wondered how players like villa would feel about no football till match and this has answered! I wouldn't be surprised if lampard signed now. I do wonder why Lescott wasn't offered this sort of thing though, playing for teams in the City brand? Rumours of him moving to Portland Timbers so why not NYCFC? Maybe he's just not as good a looking poster boy as David Villa!

Well he's not in the same class as a player that's for sure. Isn't it that you only get 3 star players in MLS and you wouldn't want one to be Lescott for world domination?

Not a shirt seller but would give a solid spine to the team. Lescott in defence, Lampard in midfield, David Villa up front. Build the rest of your team around that!

Precisely. He's a very good CB at PL level; he would be an outstanding CB at MLS level.

He's good at certain things. I'm not a huge follower of the MSL, but he will only be good if the football played is physical. If it is a technical league then he will struggle. BUT like I said, I don't know that much about the styles of football they play.

It's not a particularly physical league but nor is it a particularly high standard (I do follow it as my wife is American; I've even been to a few matches). I reckon the best sides would survive in the Championship, that the average level is League One play-off contention and that the poorest sides would struggle in League One. There are a lot of decent players but only 3-4 decent teams.

This isn't as bad as it sounds; I think lower-league footy in England has improved a lot over the last 15 years. I go and watch Rochdale sometimes and they play some lovely stuff. Plus the MLS is constantly improving. It's very enjoyable now, which wasn't the case a decade ago.

Which has been your team so far? Philly right? Will you switch with the creation of NYFC?

This issue is a cause of great tension in Chez DVToure. See eye-to-eye do not Philly and NYC sports teams. I think I'll have to be a crypto-Yankee, whilst outwardly supporting the Union alone.

OK, is this the same thing even with the less prominent new york teams like for example the Mets or the Islanders? Are all NY-based teams disliked or just the big ones?

I think it's primarily an American football thing, given that the southern half of Jersey tends to support the Eagles and the northern half the Giants. The cities have overlapping catchment zones - a bit like Manchester and Liverpool but on a US scale.
