I agree, lot of blame lies with hodgson. How Barkley didn't start bot games is beyond me. And picking welbeck to start twice when it is obvious it's because of his work rate is ridiculous - pick an attacking player on his ability to score goals.

Uruguay had two shots on target all night and scored twice. We had six and scored once.
I've not seen a decent defence at the world cup so far, the issue was that we're just not clinical. We had the chances to win tonight and to beat Italy. We didn't take them.

Apparently both cbs should have dropped back into our box, expecting Gerrard to flick the ball on.

So presumably if Cavani flicks it on to Suarez & our cbs are both in our box playing him onside facing 2v2 they are blameless ?

they had more than that. Even Joe had to drag a corner off the line.

I suppose but hard to call a shot from a corner a 'chance'.
We dominated large parts of the match and had the chances to win that. Once we equalised we had all the momentum and should have won it really. Instead Gerrard lets us down.

Uruguay's defence was equally bad but like Italy they just had that extra little bit of quality in the final third.

It's a shame, far worse England sides have made it out the group stages.

You didn't say "chance", you said "shots on target".

Gerrard has been a shadow of what he was for three or four seasons. Time to put him to sleep.

I've played in Goal many times and power finishes like that, unless your body is in the right place, you aint stopping it (if you do, it'll take your head off) Credit where its due, cracking finish.........Sister of Fu would you agree?

If it hits you, you save it. I agree.

It was a good finish. He is still a loathsome little rat-faced, buck-toothed, cheating racist though. I will not budge on that.

Don't think they counted them as shots on target though tbh. Not seen a replay but I think they were going parallel with the goal line rather than in. Could well be wrong though. Will watch the highlights when i'm slightly less depressed about the result.

Fact is we dominated tonight and should have won but we were poor in the final third whereas Uruguay were clinical.

Gerrard as you say was awful. Rooney played great and responded to the criticism, always wanted the ball and looked up for it. Gerrard undid all our hard work.

Shocking performance from the 'captain.'

Lots of talk about Suarez being the difference with his goals but Italy scored two against us too. Our squad just is nt very good. I don't think Uruguay will qualify either. Costs Rica will go though if they beat us or even a draw will probably be enough

It looked like that shot crossed the line slap bang in the middle of the goal. No chance of a reaction save- your body has be in the right place but his body wasn''t taking up anywhere near as much space as it should. I'd have been steaming over with my war face, trying to put him off & making myself as big as possible. It doesn't take your head off; it slices your gums up and you save the shot (if you have neck muscles). Then you get up & try to act hard. He ducked down to one side and if he'd played the percentages right I reckon he'd have saved it. To be fair to him he usually does well in those situations & I know fuck all about playing in the World Cup finals.

Question: If Suarez was a City player, how would the English press treat him throughout the next season?

Question 2: Well, he isn't a City player, he is a Liverpool player ... what will we see (or hear, during games next season)?

I agree. The commentators tried to talk us up but I mainly saw us give the ball away most of the game, Gerrard and Rooney to the fore. Perhaps my standards are too high now, spoilt by City.

My opinion is that he wouldn't have let that in at Etihad - he hurried to reposition himself in unfamiliar surroundings, and had too much momentum from repositioning hurriedly to be able to react to the shot.
