Pep Guardiola has long been touted as Manuel Pellegrini's eventual successor at Manchester City.

And so it may not have come as much of a surprise to see the club's academy chief Patrick Vieira taking in the Spaniard's methods as he took training at Bayern Munich.

The Frenchman, who is performing well in charge of City's youngsters, was snapped by the German champions along with star left back David Alaba.

They tweeted a picture of the pair and revealed that Alaba, who was named in the UEFA team of the year, regarded the ex-Arsenal World Cup winner as his hero.

Sportsmail understands Vieira was in Bavaria to spend time with Guardiola and watch him at work.

Guardiola, 44, made the switch across Europe after a successful stint at Barcelona, where he excelled as a player and a coach.

And it is no secret that City's ex-Barca executive team of Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain are big fans of a man they used to work with.

Pellegrini, 61, has a year-and-a-half left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

While his position is not under threat and he may well extend his stay, City will no doubt be making plans for his eventual departure.

The Chilean sang Guardiola's praises ahead of November's Champions League clash in Manchester and even suggested that he should one day manage in England.

'I think it will be very good for him and very good for the Premier League also,' he said.

I wonder if Pellegrini will stay & if he does leave in the near future, what kind of manager will replace him how that City team will play, we have been asking ? We have speculated, but really we know nothing do we ? It could be all talk.

Perhaps Diego Simieone will be coming in, as per rumours we say, perhaps we are going to score loads from set pieces etc, & he is going to have us all sitting back defending & hitting teams on the break, with loads of big fuckers heading the ball out ? There has been so much speculation surrounding Pellegrini, if only we had a clue as to what kind of football we are planning to play in the future, but unfotunatlely, nothing. Not one single clue.

Not as if it's it's significant that smack bang in the middle of the season, one of our top coaches has taken the trouble to go to Germany to learn coaching tips from Pep Guardiola. Just a thought, but no, it's silly, there's no story here, we can't learn anything from this. It's not as if the top bloke in charge of football at City has fixed up for one of his to coaches to go & learn from someone elses manager in the middle of a season or anything. For all we know, we could be changing to long ball next season.

It probably means nothing, neither a hint that Guardiola is still highly valued by City, so much so that one of our top coaches goes all the way to Germany in the middle of the season to learn stuff from him nor does it mean Vieira is possibly taking the final steps toward a higher management position, nor that the coaching methods currently employed by City are moving even closer toward the style favoured by Txiki etc.

Give us a few examples of coaches flying to, let's say City, in the middle of the season, apart from those with connections to the club.

Start with one example of anybody, even Stockport County, doing it at City, then find an example of a bigger club doing it, then find someone who has flown across the continent to have tips from Mancini, or Pellegrini, then find one who is in the Champions League qualifying section at the same time as us.

Then find a second one, because it happens all the time.

Or are you going to claim that flying to fucking Munich, is the same as phoning up Fat Sam or Harry for a bit of advice ?

What do I know, but considering the way Patrick's under 19's have schooled Bayern's in the last couple of seasons, maybe it's the other way around. Maybe Pep is looking for help from us. I hope we're charging them a hefty intellectual rights fee.

Why would anybody, anywhere, who has just embarked on a huge project like City, on great wages, want to fuck off in the middle of it ? What kind of job satisfaction would that being ? Where would the ambition be ? What would that do for their reputations ? What if they get to Barca, & find that there are more politics involved a year later & they are both out on their arses ? Just because they know somebody at Barca, they will spew everything, walk out on City & return ? Not a cat in hell's chance.

There is one chance of those two going to Barca; if City effectively sack them. This trip by Vieira is another indication of how that is not part of the plan, at all.

As for Pep; he has already said he won't be going back there, & he fancies the Premier League.

When that happens, who knows ? But it probably will & maybe soon. Big question is whether that's as an employee or a rival.
