We just got 20+ inches in baltimore. No one drove while it was snowing ... A day after it stopped snowing the roads were completely fine. Wet, but no ice no snow. Because salt and "grit" were put down beforehand ... not complicated.
And as far as I've seen from forecasts ... the temp over there is just at the freezing point, that is not cold enough by far to negate the use of salt. If you drove around in a truck and shoveled salt off the back it would have dramatically lessened the danger presented from Ice and 12'' of snow.

Forecast for last night was -8, it ended up being -15, so forecasts aren't everything! It was -10 when I went out this morning, and -9 most of the day. It's predicted for -9 tonight, but we'll see what it actually is, I guarantee it'll be lower!

Just because one or two football games are called off doesn't mean the world is going to end.

P.S. You have got to be kidding me with the, 'buying too much salt' line.

It's not just a case of buying salt now though is it?
Fish111 wrote:Winter tyres? Fuck that, What's the point buying them when we haven't had weather like this for over 30 years? Less money to spend on beer.
Buy salt to clear your own path? Fuck that, it doesn't work below a certain temperature anyway and that'll also mean less money to spend on beer.
Northern lassess dress sensibly? Fuck that, Northern lads get turned on by the pert nipples and cornbeef legs look. Plus they always fall for the ''Cold love? ere, let me buy you an hot blob'' chat-up line in Yates's!! ;-) I can afford em because i didn't waste my money on winter tyres & salt.

Sand and salt don't go bad. If you have too much one year, you just leave it stockpiled and it'll still be good the next year. I swear. I've got a bucket of sand right now to put on any ice that may form on my steps. It won't go bad, it has an indefinite shelflife.
