Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Not sure if he has been talked about much lately or not, but he seems like he could possibly fit into Pep's tiki taka philosophy... Thoughts?

Not for me.
Too old, too expensive, doesn't work hard enough.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,

Its a yes from me - some of the stuff he can do with a football is amazing. I think he would only flourish more in a better team, (to be fair we were only marginally better than WHU this season but hopefully will be even stronger next).
He reminds me of kinky to a degree, though unlike the Georgian Genius, Payet would have the right players around him and on his waive length. Yeh I'd be happy with that.

I'd like to see us bringing in young impressionable talent (either our own or from elsewhere) to fill the squad out, that Pep can leave his mark on.

I'd prefer some of our own youngsters that I've seen. The last month to six weeks I've seen of Payet was very mixed. He was off more than on IMO.

Too late in his career and he's at a team that is setup around him. I can only see his career going the way of Bony's if he came here

I loved Kinky but it irks me when people come out with this. He played for better teams than us from 1998 onwards and was largely shit.
A gifted player who we were lucky to hang onto for two second tier seasons, yes, but he would be nowhere near this current matchday squad.

The point i am making is that his close control touch balance and box of tricks means they are very similar in style. Kinkladze was at his peak at city but didn't have players of a similar wavelength around him at the time - payet by contrast would.
I think that a combination of injury on the field and temptations off the field did for him when he left. I make no apologies if my post irked you.

In and of itself, your post doesn't bother me one bit. What does bother me is the deification of Kinky that's gone on for the past 18 years. He looked so good precisely because his colleagues were so fucking inept. If he was as good as some make out, he'd have taken enough games by the scruff of the neck to stop us ending up in the third tier. The last time he kicked a ball for us was in that depressing game at Stoke when we both went down; in the grand scheme of things, we've barely looked back since.
I accept that he was exciting to watch, and I loved him as a kid. I just don't buy that the only reason he wasn't Maradona is because he was playing with Neil Heaney and Darren Wassall. On the contrary, his bobbing around in a massive pond of shit was what made him look so amazing.

Too old for any sell on fee, but was easily my fav player this season in the prem. I'd have him if the price was right. Reminds me a little of tevez when I watch him.
Tracking back is overrated.

I'd advise you not to look at him just before bed in that case.

It will be interesting to see if he can reach the same heights or surpass them next season bearing in mind his age and the fact that he may well have been worked out by most Premier League teams. It could be that West Ham invest wisely (which they have mostly done the last couple of seasons) and he continues to shine but I cannot see him having the same effect as he has had this season.

We already got a slightly over-weight Frenchman with a dodgy haircut in his position.
And Nasri's even younger. It's a definite no for me.

Speaking of French men with dodgy haircuts, what about Mahrez? Just seen us linked to Vardy for a £20M release clause, if I was to choose a Leicester player you'd be hard pressed to find one better than Riyad.

I am always skeptical to jump on someone after one good year but I must say he looked the part and seemed like he could do it all. Navas' work rate is definitely higher but good God at least mahrez can send in a cross and score more often than once every two years. I would love the move actually.
By the way, I do believe he is Algerian. Cheers
