that was an awful fall. worse than the flailing arm. wasnt able to brace himself and fell flat on his back with his head hitting the ground too. awful.
note: everyone on NBCSN (arlo white, lee dixon, and graeme le saux + plus all analysts in studio) believe that it wasnt a foul on Alonso.
The Dutch commentators didn't think it was a foul either.
I disagree. If that had happened in the middle of the pitch, it would have been a freekick and a card.

If Hasard had rolled another revolution or two he might have been able to bump that up to a red.

IF Arsenal can scrape a win today and IF we win all our remaining games we would then need Chelsea to drop four more points and the Spuds to drop one point for us to win the league. I know I'm an optimist but it's doable.

A foul does not require intent to be called.
It was a forearm to the head before the ball was played, it's a foul.

1. ratboy is right that arsenal never really challenge or pressure the ball. All I can think is they must have pretty lax training sessions and just carry it over to the game.
2. For as invisible as ozil is, you can tell he hates playing with walcott because all theo has is pace. Too thick to make the right runs and a terrible touch as well

If we'd scored that header we'd see nothing wrong with it.

If we'd scored that it would've been disallowed no doubt

For me its less clear. Human beings use their arms to aid their jump. It was a natural movement. He didnt wildly swing his arms and didnt flail with intent to hit Alonso. So, so much looks terrible in slow-mo and on replay. Thats why its almost impossible for major sports to include replay of fouls/potential fouls.
Atkinson is out there watching it in real time so im not at all surprised by or disappointed with his decision

You make a good point as without that elbow Bellerophon would've probably got the ball.
Not worth complaining though, this is the season where it's all about the goals, even if they are yards offside!

If we'd scored that they'd be talking about violent assault, how the challenge could have paralyzed him, and extended bans

I don't care about natural movement, or flailing arms. Sometimes it's a foul when you don't really do anything wrong.
However to simplify it. Bellarin had front position and jumped for the ball, Alonso jumped over his back. Anywhere else on the pitch, that's a foul.

We'd have been persecuted through the media before having every player associated with the club receiving retrospective bans from the FA.

The fact that since Fern got his red card, we've had at least one tackle just like his against us per game get a yellow or unpunished proves there's 2 sets of rules. And the media are more than complicit, they're the instigators
