The game itself was dire.Thought we would have put on more of a good show at home..Centrebacks shouldnt be getting MOTM awards at home to Portsmouth.

It certainly wasn't good football from us but I've seen worse. Passing game from midfield wasn't right and we struggled to build any phases of play. Portsmouth pressed us well, they were rubbish overall but tactically, I think Grant got a lot out of them.

If we performed like that every week, we'd start dropping points regularly. We didn't defend especially well and were too easily neutralised most of the time. We didn't do a good job of breaking them down when they defended in numbers.

Taken on its own, this is a concern, but I don't think you can ignore the week that's been in it. I've often noticed that the derby is such a big game that it takes over some fixtures close to it. Getting so up for it means that we're down about other matches. The form book over recent years has generally pointed that way and it's a good description of what happened today. Crowd were disinterested and bored (by absolutely everything, relatively speaking). I'm used to hearing the City away fans being loud, it certainly came across as quiet on TV. Anything less than a pounding was going to go down like a lead balloon. It was the same for players. Emotionally drained (across the squad), they were vulnerable and not as focused as they should have been. Morale wasn't helped by Robinho leaving, Bridge's personal crisis, Toure straight back and Adebayor. They were trying, it just wasn't happening.

Against that back-drop the result looks a lot better. We had the fortitude to do enough against them. We let them back in around the hour as they came at us but we soaked the pressure and didn't collapse. With a disjointed squad we got going only in spells but weren't over troubled.

Yeah, we could have overtaken Liverpool with a better goal difference. At this point of the season, the win is what matters. It's a complete and utter waste of time -- it's counter-productive, actually -- to get our knickers in a twist over a wasted opportunity to achieve next to nothing. We have a week to prepare for Hull and double last year's tally of away wins.

It's a result business and we got a result. We are not going to play total football week and week out so I will happily take the three points. I am actually happy that we can win ugly which that was today as in the past we would not have won.

Today was always going to be tough after what happend on Wednesday. It will take awhile to get that out of the systems of both players and fans alike hence the flat feel to the game and the atmopshere, but it will go a little way to get minds reconcentrated on the fight for 4th and the FA cup. We still have so much to play for!!

Happy with the result of today's game.

Not too enthusiastic about the performance, but had though it might be a bit flat after Wed night.

Our tactics seemed odd at times, we lacked width, Petrov over-used on the right wing, and not much shape in the middle. Pompey were shite but unlucky not to score.

Impressed with De Jong, and Dedryck again when he came on. Thought Ned looked the business today.

We need to improve to win the upcoming games, or we may be in trouble...

It was one of the worst 2-0 wins I have ever seen.

But it was still a hell of a lot better than any of the draws and losses we have had.

I'm happy with the win - yes it was a terrible game of football and we were poor but at the end of the day it's 3 points, two goals and a clean sheet.

During the past couple of yrs we would have lost or drawn that game when our challenge for a top 6 spot has usually begun to wobble e.g. under Sven.

We've been spoilt with entertaining football this season especially at home games, so i don't think we can complain too much and maybe it wasn't a surprise that it was a flat performance and a flat atmosphere in the ground after Wednesday's disappointment.

That sums up my views completely, but what I have a problem with is the 'Total Football' thing. Yes, we have a make shift back 4, but we do seem to compensate with the full team defending. This isn't just an isolated game, it's been every game that Mancio's been in charge of.

I know we are getting the results but it does seem we give teams too much grace. Those first 30 minutes and periods throughout were just pathetic and as I said, luckily certain players can put the ball away!

I have to say that I'm little bit baffled about all the moaning and whining on official match thread. Personally I felt we showed extreme professionalism in getting past a shit side after all the emotions of wednesday. Seems to me that we are slowly getting rid of 'typical City'.

I'm not on a wind up here by the way. Just little bit amazed about the reactions.

Absolutely delighted...we played poor on what can only be described as a hangover from Wednesday night and we still won

That may be all we need to know, but the likes of Hull, Bolton and Stoke will be taking a lot of positives from todays game.

Get the defence right first then build on that as a platform - isn't that what we've been wanting a coach to do since forever?

That's right mate, ask United about that one. Apart from the first 3 under Mancio, we have conceded in every game, despite the very defensive minded approach, including a couple against the likes of Scunthorpe. Everton sussed us out, Rags didn't have a problem, whilst the current teams we are playing just don't have what it takes. Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs will be the real test, and that's for any side, but we'll see how much we have progressed at least.

I absolutely disagee Beefy

I think that it will have the opposite effect...we play badly and still cruise to a win...like has already been mentioned...every team has bad games...it's what you do to convert those bad games into wins that seperates the top four from the pack

And I would usually agree with you, but for the mass of games we have played under Mancio, it worries me that it is down to a couple of individuals/set pieces to win a game.

Don't you know we've spent 250 million?

Spent to LEVEL the playing field...the big guns have been spending heavily for years...it's only more noticable with us because it's been done in a couple of seasons...we are just playing catch up...pretty successfully so far this season from what I can see in the table...the amount spent argument holds absolutely no water with me
