just about to come on here and post the bbc article... it's a fucking disgrace. We could have started negotiations the week before, but you know they wanted it on deadline day to generate a buzz. Fucking idiots. I don't think the Sheik will be pleased about how that went. What that really speaks to is an ignorance as to how transfers/work permits really work, so I'd guess it's Cooke's fault.

Apparently the PM of Kenya got Mariga the work permit but it was too late... this begs the question who the fuck is responsible for dragging this out to the last day of the transfer window?

If this had happened last week there would not have been any issues due to the intervention of the Kenyan PM.

Thing is though we are talking about a player a lot of us have never seen play. OK thats irrelevant because Mancini calls it, but would City sanction a hugely inflated fee for a player they could have had for what, £7m, when the selling club is minted as well and would be more inclined to play a silly cat and mouse game that sidetracks the pre-season? and then you still have to justify the work permit, Kenyan PM's letter and all? Nah...we let Barca change the guard, and go for Yaya.

Maybe I'm a bit pessimist due to the dominance Inter have installed in Italy both on the pitch and on the transfer market, but I don't see it easy at all to take a player they want to keep from them. Better wages?Moratti will offer whatever we do, and nullify that point. Mourinho will tell him he has a great future at Inter, etc. and we may struggle to get the lad's attention.

I'd seen him briefly and looked impressed but hadn't connected the name and the face initially. Name recognition wasn't all that high either with de Jong, Zabaleta, Kompany, Corluka...

It was a complicated enough deal. We can't know that it was our fault and not at one of the other ends, it's just a shame because -- in Bojinov -- we had rare leverage in the transfer deal.

That's right. Look at Ibra - the most paid player in Europe and still he left for Barcelona, but thanks to him and the money we got from the transfer Inter practically rebuilt the team. :)
